Samuel J. Fike
Samuel J. Fike, 78, of Brackney, PA passed away on Friday July 2, 2021. Samuel was born on February 13, 1943 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of the late James J. and Mary (Rubachko) Fike.
Samuel graduated Hampton High School of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1961. He enlisted in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965. Samuel served on the USS Georgetown gathering intelligence in the Southern Hemisphere during the Cuban Missile Crisis as a Senior Electronics Technician.
Sam worked for IBM as a Senior Systems Analyst from 1965 to 1995, in Kingston and Endicott, NY, as well as in Boeblingen, West Germany. In retirement, Sam obtained a US Coast Guard Master Captains License, a Class A CDL truck and a motorcycle license, and became a Certified Scuba Diver, Instructor and Rescue Diver.
During his free time, Sam lived life to its fullest. While in Germany, Sam traveled with his wife and children throughout all of Europe skiing, camping, Volksmarching, and living in the richness each culture had to offer. Upon returning stateside, Sam's favorite activities included a family farm with all the requisite farm animals, hunting in Pennsylvania, training Schutzhunds, sailing his boat up and down the Intercoastal waterway and scuba diving in Florida. Most recently, Sam spent his free time riding his BMW motorcycles anywhere and everywhere he could.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Nancy Fike; daughters Marjean Fike Thomas (Carl) of Astor, Florida, Jennifer Fike (Rene Marcucci) of Boston, MA, grandsons Morgan Samuel Thomas and Avery James Thomas, Brother Daniel K. Fike (Debbie) of Concord, NC, sister Dorothy A. Allred of Reno, NV and nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
