Judson R. Holdredge, 65, of Kingsley, PA passed away, Friday, April 23, 2021. Born December 14, 1955, in Kingston, PA, he was the son of the late Ernest J. and Miriam [Ritter] Holdredge.
A graduate of Mansfield University, Jud taught reading for the Lake Lehman School District. He also earned a master’s degree from St. Bonaventure University.
Jud had a lifelong love for volleyball. He played for Tunkhannock High School where during his sophomore year, the team, coached by his father, won the state and national titles. Additionally, he played football.
Jud went on to coach boys’ volleyball at his alma mater, Tunkhannock, for 27 years plus several more for North Pocono. Over his career, he achieved 400 dual meet wins. In 2007, Jud was honored by being elected to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Additionally, he coached the women’s team at the University of Scranton for several years. He was instrumental in the establishment of Amateur Athletic Union [AAU] volleyball in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Jud also was a NCAA and PIAA volleyball referee.
In his spare time, he enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks; gathering at Lake Eaton annually with family and friends. Jud also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his beloved Golden Retriever.
Survivors include wife, Ellen Holdredge of Kingsley, PA, son, Adam Zurn [Maribeth] of Conestoga, PA, grandson, Benson Zurn, brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard J. Holdredge [Pamela] and John A. Holdredge [Patty], both of Tunkhannock, PA, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Ty Zurn.
Public Visitation: 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Monday at the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Montrose, PA.
