After graduation, he entered the United States Air Force stationed at Vandenberg AFB in California and Greenland in the Air Force Fire Depts. At the end of his military services, he returned to the Montrose area and joined the United Fire Company, where he was a life-long member for over 50 years. Over the years, he worked at Bendix, Kason Hardware, Penelec, and as a Correctional Officer at the Susquehanna County Corrections. For over forty years, he was the Sexton at the First Presbyterian Church in Montrose and worked part-time at the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home for nearly as long. Bill’s great sense of humor and friendly smile was evident in his daily life as he was always lending a helping hand to those in need. His passion was playing ice hockey, and later rarely missed a game televised. Football also ranked high on his enjoyment list as did summer trips to Maine, Lancaster, and weekend travels. Bill had a special relationship with his grandson, James, which was reciprocated. Services will be private. If desired memorial contributions may be made to either; the First Presbyterian Church of Montrose, 367 Church Street, Montrose, PA 18801, or the United Fire Company of Montrose, P.O Box 286, Montrose, PA 18801.
