Richard J. Nasser, 90, of Montrose, PA passed away, Monday, April 13, 2020. Born January 7, 1930, in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Claire Gurden Nasser.
He served in the United States Armed Service in the Marine Corps.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Millersville University, Millersville, PA and a master’s degree from the State University of New York, Oneonta, NY becoming a Teacher and Guidance Counselor at Elk Lake Jr./Sr. High School. He retired after 36 years and then work for 10 additional years for the MEPS, Harrisburg and the ASVAB Test in northeast Pennsylvania.
He was a 60-year member of F.&A.M. Lodge #240, Montrose, Warren Royal Arch, Chapter #180, Montrose and St Andrews Commandry #27, Knights Templar, Hallstead, PA Additionally he was a Susquehanna County Republican committeeman for Bridgewater Township, a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, National Education Association of United States, the Central Conservation Club of South Montrose, PA and the Camp Onectevet, Friendsville
He coached basketball and baseball at Elk Lake Jr./Sr. High School and was Inducted into the NEPA Sports Hall of Fame
He enjoyed golfing, hunting and baseball.
Survivors include wife of 66 years, Carole A. Nasser of Montrose, PA, sons, and daughters-in-law, Thomas J. Nasser (Carol) of Springville, PA, William R. Nasser (Crystal) of Meshoppen, PA, daughters, and sons-in-law, Linda Smith (Dennis) of Dunlap, IL, Ellen J. Miller (Mark) of Lexington, SC, Susan Newell (George) of Montrose, PA, sister, Bette Clark (Robert) of SC, 12 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Services: will be private at the convenience of the family.
