Obituary of Wilmer W. Hoopes III

Wilmer Worthington Hoopes III “Buzz”, 85, of Montrose, PA passed away, Monday, February 24, 2020. Born April 26, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Wilmer W. Jr. and Mary [Sayre] Hoopes. Growing up, Buzz was an avid lacrosse player and played lacrosse at Nichols College, Dudley, MA. He served in the U.S. Airforce and then returned home and was a self-employed Carpenter. He grew up in Rosemont PA, the only boy of four children and is remembered for his smile and his practical jokes. He loved people, dancing, and traveling. He cherished his five children and loved time with his sisters. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and his wonderful friend Cameron Wasko and very special caretaker Del. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Montrose. Survivors include wife, Sharon Hoopes, daughter Jann Cassady (Joe) of Vienna, VA; sons, Bradley Hoopes (Catherine) of Lorton, VA, Wilmer “Tim” W. Hoopes IV (Michele) of Fairfax, VA, Jay VanDuser of Cicero, NY and Benjamin Hoopes (Susan) of Bristow, VA; sisters, Louise “Dede” Shafer of Bryn Mawr, PA, Priscilla “ Biff ” Andre (Dave) of Montrose, PA, and Elisabeth “Lisa” Gilbert of York, PA; grandchildren, Naomi, Zachary, Meredith, Blake, Christian, Hunter, Brandon, Keegan and Cameron. Services: 2:00 pm Friday February 28, 2020 at Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., Montrose, PA 18801. Visitation: 1 hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral home.
