It is with heavy hearts that we said goodbye to Terry L. Powell, 59, of Montrose, PA on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Wilson Hospital, Johnson City, NY. Terry was born November 27, 1960 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of Lynn R. and Barbara A. [Holofchak] Powell.
Terry was a 1978 graduate of Montrose Area Jr/Sr High School.
Terry was employed for over 20 years as a carpenter with the Union; United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 277, based in Horseheads, New York. Terry was well respected by all of his co-workers and was greatly missed on the job during his long illness.
In addition to his parents he leaves behind a loving wife, Helen Powell, a wonderful daughter and son-in-law, Jennie Rider (John Sr.) of Forest Lake, PA and 2 amazing grandchildren, Johnny Rider and Josie Rider. Terry is also survived by 3 siblings; a sister and brother-in-law, Patty Darrah (Steve) of Forest Lake, a brother, Dan Powell of Forest Lake, PA, brother and sister-in-law, Shane Powell (Danielle) of Montrose, PA. He also has several nieces, nephews and cousins that loved him dearly. Terry also leaves behind his dog Hannah, a daily loyal companion and breakfast buddy for the last 5 years.
In his spare time he enjoyed NASCAR racing, drag car racing, bowling and watching Storage Wars and any car makeover show on TV. Terry also enjoyed RV camping in Upstate NY and floating on his giant inner-tube on Lake Ontario. He very much enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved when they came over to watch movies together. Terry did all these things while always enjoying an ice cold Pepsi; to know him is to know his love of Pepsi!
Terry was kind, generous and helpful man who would go out of his way to assist anyone in need. He was a loving, devoted husband for over 38 years. He loved his wife, Helen ‘berry’ much.
Family, friends and others whose lives Terry touched are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 04, 2020. This will be held at The Vestal Center Club (formerly the Redman’s Club) Route 26 Vestal Center, NY, beginning at 1:00pm.
This gathering will be to share in our love for Terry. Share stories, laughter and reminisce in the joy Terry brought to this world.
