Obituary of Martha G. Scott
Martha G. Scott was born on March 15, 1929. She grew up in Natrona Heights, PA where she graduated from Har-Brack High School and Shadyside Hospital Nursing School. She married Charles W. Scott Jr. on February 2, 1951, between semesters and continued to live near Grove City College for Chuck’s final semester. They moved to Brackenridge, PA where they lived until moving to Middle River, MD in 1953. Nineteen years later in 1972, they relocated to Cedar Knolls, NJ. In 1987, they purchased a home in South Montrose, PA and in 1990 they retired there permanently. For the past 29 years, South Montrose has been home for Martha until she went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 9th, 2019 at the age of 90.
Martha was a Registered Nurse and used her nursing skills in many different ways. She was a head operating room nurse, school nurse, private practice nurse and she retired from Bell Labs as an industrial clinic nurse.
In Maryland, she helped out with the children and youth in various capacities including Cub Scouts, MYF – Methodist Youth Fellowship and as her children’s greatest sports fan. She also served in a variety of Women’s ministries. In New Jersey, she continued to support her children in sports while involved in women’s ministries, small groups and mission ministries. In South Montrose, Martha was instrumental in starting a church and leading a small group in her home with her husband, Chuck. She visited and served in Bolivia, Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG.) She returned to PNG two more times, helping Wycliffe Bible Translators in various roles. She also enjoyed volunteering at JAARS (Missions aviation & technology center) in Waxhaw NC.
Martha loved to help people and being hospitable. She had the knack for taking a small party and turning into a full-scale event. No one visited her without coming away well-fed and well-loved. She was always quick to talk about her children and grandchildren, as she was extremely proud of them and all they did.
Martha was the daughter of William and Mayme Snowden (predeceased) and is survived by her husband Charles W. Scott Jr. and one sister Ann Lee Schlegel (married to Herb) of Schuylkill Haven. She has three sons – Charles W. Scott III (1952 – Predeceased - 2003), Dean S. Scott (1953 – married to Bonnie) and Timothy A. Scott (1957, Married to Kim) She has 7 grandchildren; Jessica Manley (Steve), Nadean Cuff (Eddie), Darrin Scott, Hope Peters, Kelsey Scott (Engaged to Carl), Kayla Nachtigal (Tyler) and Kacie Bonner (Welton.) She also has 6 great-grandchildren, soon to be 8!
Martha was a faith-follower of Jesus. She wanted nothing more than to be in touch with His heart, in step with His will and now in love with His presence. The most prominent characteristic about Martha’s faith was her love for Jesus. She would talk about the Lord, tear up about His goodness, mourn for those who do not yet have faith in Him and in her last days, yearn to be in His presence. Oh, the joy she must be feeling now, her faith in Jesus as her only hope has now become sight.
