Obituary of Catherine Isabel Seed Escandel

Catherine Isabel Seed Escandel, Age 98, died December 3, 2019. She passed away at the Endless Mountain Health Systems, Montrose, Pa. She had been a resident of Gracious Living Estates, South Montrose, Pa. for the past 4 years. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond Whitney Escandel in February of 1998.

She is survived by her children Bobbie (Russell) Krager and Thomas (RoseAnn) Escandel. Also, four Grandchildren, Sarah Krager, Adam Krager, Keith (Heather) Escandel, Lindsey Escandel (Jeremy) Williams. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Cole, & Carter Escandel and Kameron, Lyndan, & Jensen Williams.

Born in London, Ontario, Canada on 12/23/20 Daughter of the late Robert and Jean Rutherford Seed. She was a registered nurse with a bachelor’s degree in science. She began her career as a visiting nurse in Philadelphia, Pa.  Upon moving to NE Pa., she was employed by the Scranton Visiting Nurse Association. She became the school nurse of the Mountain View School District in 1955 where she served for 27 years.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Harford, Pa. singing in the choir for over 30 years and participant in the handbell choir for over 17 years. She was a Sunday school teacher, Church Deacon, past secretary of the Missionary Society and the Cradle Roll. She planned and coordinated the Mother Daughter Banquet for 25 years.

She most recently attended the Brooklyn Universalist Church in Brooklyn, Pa. where she volunteered for various activities.

She was active in school nursing organizations at local and state levels.

She was active in the Pa. federated women’s club, past president of the Hop Bottom women’s club, past president of The Susquehanna county federated women’s club. She was a member of the Montrose Evening Club and the Kingsley Civic Club. She was past board member and president of the Susquehanna County of the American Cancer Society. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and Easter Seals. She volunteered for the 4H club teaching sign language. She was also involved in the Boy Scouts and served as the PTA program chairperson for the Harford School, Harford Pa. She was administrative assistant to the late State Representative Carmel Sirianni in 1982.

She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, Past matron of Prosperity Chapter 83, Hop Bottom, Pa. She was former deputy of District 18 in 1975, Grand Representative to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island 1988 to 1990 and coordinated “Chorus 18”. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, International Honor Society of Women Educators. She was a member of the Pa. Association of School Retirees and served as secretary and treasurer of the local Susquehanna Chapter.
