Russell E. Darrow, Jr.

of Silver Lake Twp., PA

July 21, 1941 – June 17, 2019


Russell Elwood Darrow, Jr., 77, of Silver Lake Twp., PA passed away in a tragic accident on Monday, June 17, 2019.  Russ was born on July 21, 1941 in Troy, NY and he was the son of the late Russell Elwood and Josephine Darrow, Sr.


He retired from IBM where he was employed as a Senior Mechanical Engineer/Manager.  Russ was a Navy Veteran, where he served on the USS Little Rock and earned a National Defense Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal for his involvement in the Cuban Missile crisis.


Russ was an accomplished aviator who held a Private Pilots License for more than 60 years.  He also was a Commercial Pilot (Airplane single engine land & sea, Airplane multi-engine land, Rotorcraft, Instrument), a Certified Flight Instructor (Airplane single & multi-engine land, Instruments) and a Certified Airframe & Power Plant Mechanic.  


He was also held a Sea Captains license and taught sailing in the Florida Keys for many years.  


He was a member of the NRA, USO, American Legion, VFW, Triple City Street Rod Club and was a member of the Warren Township Volunteer Fire Department. 


He is survived by Daughter and Son-in-Law, Toni (Jonathan) Ryder, of Highworth, England; Daughter Lorilee Darrow Crisp of Owens Cross Roads, AL; and Son, Brett Darrow of Minerva, NY. He is also survived by Brothers and Sisters-in-law, David (Carol) Darrow of Phoenix , AZ;  and Robert (Patty) Darrow of Chapel Hills, NC;  his six Grandchildren (Kirstie, Kaylee Megan, Eric, Liam, and Ainslee; his four Great Grandchildren (Ryan, Parker, Garrett and Winnie) as well as Nieces and Nephew (Courtney, Staci, Ami and David Jr).


Services:  A small private ceremony was held at Riverhurst Cemetary in June and a Celebration of Life Memorial service is being held at Tri-Cities Airport, Endicott, NY on August 24th, 2019.
