Let Our Family Serve Yours
Obituary of Avis Morgan
Avis T Morgan, 90, of New Milford, Pa was taken to her heavenly home on Monday November 12th, 2018. Born on April 6, 1928 in Harford, Pa, she was the eldest daughter of Gerald L. and Helen (Benning) Tyler. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, LeRoy William “Bill” Morgan, as well as her sister, Nelda Leonard, sisters-in-law Geraldine Morgan and “Tack” Morgan and brother-in-law Donald Morgan.
Mom was a long-time member of South New Milford Baptist Church, enjoyed singing in the choir, and assisting in the nursery and kitchen. She served the Lord for many years through her weekly care of the church's sanctuary and Sunday school rooms. Her love of books led her to serve on the New Milford Library board from which she retired, as President of the board, at age 83. As the wife of a career Navy officer, in each posting, she was the support and “cheerleader” for all of the wives of those who served under him. In retirement, she was an active member of the Women's Auxiliary, at the Montrose VFW, serving as President for several years until illness required her to resign at age 84. Although the valedictorian of her graduating class, she was unable to attend college immediately. Her life-long devotion to learning led her to take courses through various colleges as she traveled and to complete a certification program for nurse aide at the age of 70 in order to help her neighbors and friends in time of need. She was involved in her local community for many years, assisting with Red Cross Blood drives as well as judging at the Harford Fair and participating in their opening day concerts.
Loved ones mourning her loss include her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ron Johnson of New Milford, Pa, with whom she resided for the past 6 years, her son and significant other, Gerry Morgan and Sandy Baker of Crown King Az, grandchildren Jennifer Zarrelli, Wendy Johnson (Dusty Canfield), Shane Morgan, Erin (Steve) Brandon, great-grandchildren Taylor and Sam Zarrelli, Adeline and Zoey Brandon and great-great-granddaughter Isabelle (Izzy) Zarrelli.
