Steve Hackel, 64, of Friendsville, PA passed away, unexpectedly at the Veteran’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York due to complications following surgery.
Steve grew up in New Milford, Pa., the oldest of eight children. He graduated from Montrose Area High School in 1972 and then joined the Navy. Steve proudly served his country during his 10 year career. He started his service on the U.S.S. Constitution in Boston and then was stationed throughout the world, including Zaire, Scotland, Turkey, Puerto Rico and Beirut.
Steve met life’s obstacles and challenges with profound strength, courage, and determination giving inspiration to everyone.
He enjoyed spending time in his man cave with his friends Jack, Bud, and his loyal sidekick Maverick.
He was well known in the area for his knowledge of auto mechanics.
Steve is survived by his loving mother Louise J. Williams, devoted partner of 22 years Terese M. Kar, his sons, Jason Hackel (Christy) and Nathan Hackel, of whom he was very proud of. Brothers, Bob Hackel (Sarah), Larry Williams (Donna), sisters Joleen L. Wagner (Kurt) Becky Jenner (Mike), five grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steven also leaves behind his best friend and hunting buddy Glenn Curtis.
Steve was predeceased by his brothers, Paul Hackel, Jim Hackel, Jeremy Williams, nephew Nicholas MacGeorge.
