Dawn Bender

of Silver Lake Twp., PA

Dawn Bender, 86, of Silver Lake Twp., PA passed away, Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at her home. Born February 21, 1932 in Binghamton, NY, she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Jeanne [Linville] Sackett.

She and her husband operated several businesses together during their 68 years of marriage including; “Bender’s Apple Orchard”, in Montrose, “Uncle Norm's Chuck Wagon” and “Uncle Norm's Hillcrest Diner”, Hillcrest, NY. She also worked tirelessly raising 5 sons and a daughter.

Always attending a local church, she was a Sunday School Teacher, a Choir Member, financial secretary and a Deaconess. Most recently she attended Franklin Hill Presbyterian Church.

She enjoyed gardening, birds and most importantly raising her family and assisting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always willing to open her home to family, friends, and those in need. She was a loving mother who always put her children first. She adored her 10 grandchildren ( Scott, Brad, Collin, Danielle, Alyssa, Jeanne, Bud, Nate, Samantha, and Daniel), and her two great grandchildren (Noah and Naomi). She was quick to laugh, and encourage her children. She was the rock of our family. In the winter, she and her husband traveled to Arizona where they had another community of family and friends who loved them. Mom was strong and sassy, and was not afraid to squish spiders and stomp on mice if they were causing problems. Our mother was adored by our father and up until the day she passed, they held hands whenever they could.

Most importantly, mom loved the lord and her greatest desire was for her family and friends to know and love the Lord.

Survivors include her husband of almost 68 years, Norman Bender, sons, Danny Norman Bender (Becky) of Phoenix, AZ, Dean A. Bender (Denise) of Sarasota, FL a daughter, Diana Roszel (William) of Montrose, PA, 10 grandchildren 2 great grandchildren, sister, Joan Chilson of Zephyrhills, FL,

In addition to her parents, 3 sons, David, Dana, and Doug, and 2 sisters Dale Brown and Derry Valentine predeceased her.
