Michael J. Dewey, 66, of Montrose, PA passed away peacefully, Friday, September 21st, 2018 at his home. Born December 9th, 1951 in Vestal, NY, he was the son of the late Herbert R. and Mary Lou (Cokley) Dewey.
He graduated from Montrose High School where he played basketball for the Montrose Meteors, then attended Keystone College. Mike enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served as a Search and Rescue Swimmer and Helicopter Electrician. He was aboard the USS Little Rock CLG-4, stationed in the Mediterranean. During his time there, he found an interest in photography, and enjoyed exploring Italy in his MG sports car.
Mike was employed at PennDOT of Susquehanna County for over 30 years. He worked as part of the Bridge Crew and retired as Assistant Manager in 2011.
In his younger years he spent the summers working on his Grandma and Grandpa Smiths’ farm. If you ever wanted to find Mike, all you had to do was go outside and he would be there: four wheeling, doing yard work, or just enjoying nature. An avid outdoorsman and athlete, Mike loved hunting, fishing, kayaking, basketball, softball and skiing. He also enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, Syracuse Basketball and Penn State Football.
Mike was a long time member of the VFW and American Legion in Montrose.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Allison Dewey and her fiancé, Dakota Salmon of Endicott, NY; brother, Larry Dewey of Eynon, PA; a nephew, Timothy Dewey of Eynon, PA, and many cousins, aunts and uncles.
The family would especially like to thank his cousin, neighbor and best friend, Jimmy Smith and his wife, Rosie for everything they have done for Mike over the years, along with other neighbors who showed acts of kindness - Thank you to Tom, CheChe Kerr and family; Bill and Kathy Rogan; and Burt and Rosemarie Whalen.
Mike had a heart of gold, and would do anything for his family and friends. He was a loving and caring Father who will be deeply missed.
Services: Per Mike’s wishes, there will not be any services, but the family will receive friends to celebrate Mike's life on Saturday, September 29th from 1-4pm at the Montrose VFW Post 5642.
