Obituary of Dane Niess

Dane Niess

of Kingsley, PA

 

Dane Niess, 85, of Kingsley, PA passed away, Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Allied Services, Scranton, PA.  Born April 17, 1933 in Manhattan, NY, she was the daughter of the late Russell H. and Anna J. [Kasmir] Owen.  Her husband Francis R. Niess predeceased her in 2015.

 

Her career as a paralegal in the Philadelphia area for many years culminated with her working for the DA of Philadelphia.

 

She was a quilting instructor at White Sewing Center, Scranton, and a part of the Happy Quilters Group, making quilts for Quilts for Kids program, Dane was a member of the Red Hat Society and founding member of the local chapter, Red Hat Mountain Mamas. Previously, she was involved in Freedom Valley Girl Scout Council.  She enjoyed gardening, painting, crafts and square and round dancing with her late husband.  Together they danced with Abington Allemanders.

 

Survivors include daughter & son-in-law, Valerie & Richard Demi of Kingsley, PA, sons & daughters-in-law, Jeffrey & Kim Niess of Albrightsville, PA, Gregory Niess of Scranton, PA, Matthew & Suzette Niess of Arlington, VA, Grandchildren & Their Spouses, Aisha Hamilton, Philip & Sheena Niess, Melissa Niess, Jeffrey Niess, Jr., Ethan Demi, Caeley Niess & Zachary Niess, a sister , Nancy Owen Larkin of Tampa, FL, brothers & sister-in-law, Russell Owen of Naples, FL, Howard & Joan Owen of Boca Raton, FL and nieces and nephews.

 

Services: 11:00 am Friday at Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., Montrose, PA  18801.

Visitation: 1 hour prior to services on Friday
