Obituary of Laura Shuta

Laura Patricia (Stetz) Shuta, 90, Montrose, PA, passed away peacefully at home on January 15th 2018, after a long illness. Born in DuPont, Lackawanna Co, PA on January 7th 1928, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Frances (Puzio) Stetz. After 26 years of marriage, she was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Leon Shuta in Oct of 1983.

She attended the Hamlin Grade School in Forest Lake Township and graduated from Montrose High School in 1945. She worked for Phillip Lonergan Attorney at Law for 7 years and County National Bank for an additional 5 years. She was a member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church.

She generously gave her time to her family and enjoyed the life of being a farmer’s wife.  Additionally, she enjoyed sewing, needlework, and was a passionate gardener.

Surviving are five daughters and four sons-in-law, Jean [Russell] Very of Fairdale, PA, Joanne [Dennis] O'Reilly of St Joseph, PA, Sally [Martin] Moore of Dimock, PA, Suzanne Shuta of Silver Lake, PA, Linda [Nathan] Cohen of Jamestown NY, grandchildren; Jodi and Thomas Clary, Dennis [Caitlyn] O'Reilly Jr, Casey O'Reilly John and Bradley Moore, several nieces and nephews and their spouses. Laura is also survived by one sister Frances Hewitt of Forest Lake, PA, two spouses of her late brothers-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" Shuta of Vestal, NY and Doris Shuta of Conklin NY.

She was predeceased by, three sisters, Cecilia Maciag, Bertha LeBorgne, Anne Macon, five brothers; Peter, Joseph, George, Frank and John Stetz, brothers-in-law John, Frank, Joseph, Charles, Michael and Raymond Shuta, sisters-in-law Mary Turowski and Sophie Hust.

 

Service: Mass 10:00 AM Saturday, January 20th, at Holy Name of Mary Church, Montrose, PA.  Fanily and friends will gather at the funeral home at 9:00 AM and process to church for Mass.

 

Visitation: 6:00-9:00 PM Friday at Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., Montrose, PA

   A prayer service will be held at 5:45 PM prior to the visitation. 

Memorial contributions in her name can be made to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes Barre PA 18702.
