John R. Brooking Sr., 80, of New Milford, PA passed away peacefully, Sunday, May 15, 2016 at his home after a long battle with Parkinson Disease. Born March 29, 1936 in Pleasant Mount, PA, he was the son of the late Homer and Frances Marie [Hempstead] Brooking.
John served in the Air Force during the Korean War era.
He was the past President of the Lions Club of Lake Como where he helped introduce the White Cane Club to the members. This is also known as the Lions Recycle for Sight Program where unused eye glasses are donated and recycled for those in need. He volunteered many Christmases with the toy drive, playing Santa Clause, being dropped from a helicopter owned by the local veterinarian, Dr. Watson.
He was an avid hunter, which included participating in raccoon hunts and serving as Grand Master of Hounds. John went on several hunting excursions out west and even to Canada.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Kristy G. [Kinney] Brooking of New Milford, PA, daughters, Suzan Brooking, Cindy Greenblatt, Jodie Brooking, son, John Brooking Jr., step children, Chad Ketchum and Amy Hall, sisters, Mary Lillian Murray and Ann LoBello. Also many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, Ralph, Charles "Buster", Homer Jr. “Junior” and Kenneth Brooking.
